Maxiflex Model B

  • Sale

The 16' Maxiflex model B (also called the Maxi-B) is the diving board that is used in all major competition diving events in the world. Universities that have a diving program have the Maxi-B diving boards, as do many high schools. The Maxi-B is lighter in weight, and is said to give a slightly quicker action in the hurdle-step. Divers who practice on the Maxi-B are accustomed to this action, and do not want to adjust to a different timing when they compete away from their practice facility.

Warning: The pool where this board will be installed must have diving-well dimensions conforming to FINA dimensional requirements. Find the latest FINA dimensions on their website at fina.org.

The 16' Maxi-B is basically a one piece ribbed extrusion of aluminum alloy 6070-T6, heat treated for a yield strength of 50,000 psi. It has a torsion-box extrusion, a two piece anchor angle, and tip end cap riveted to the basic section. It is tapered from the fulcrum area to the diving tip, and it is tapered from the fulcrum area to the anchor end. The double-taper allows the whole board to arc while flexing, giving it more lift and much higher performance than the 16' Duraflex. What distinguishes the Maxi-B from the other models is that the diving tip has 189 slots in the metal of the top "skin" which reduces the weight of the tip-end, and has the taper at the rear of the board, which the other models do not.

Note: another way to determine if you have a Duraflex or Maxi-B is by the serial number on the Duraflex International tag between the carriage bolts: a serial number beginning D990___ is a Duraflex made in 1999, whereas a serial number B990___ is a Maxi-B made in 1999.

The board is coated in aqua-colored thermal-cured epoxy resin. The top surface is finished with a laminate of flint silica and alumina, between coats of epoxy, to effect a slip-resistant surface. The diving board is to be bolted to the diving board stand by 2 carriage bolts, part # SF122 5/8" x 3 1/2". The underside ribs of the board are protected from direct contact with our metal fulcrum by rubber channels (8) attached to the board with epoxy adhesive.
